Sultan Mosque in Singapore

Showcasing a Rich Heritage

As you explore the Kampong Glam district in Singapore you will soon come across a huge golden domed building that is in fact one of the main points of worship for Muslims in the city. Named as a national monument, the Sultan Mosque is a striking religious building that is well worth visiting while staying at long stay apartments in Singapore such as The Heritage Singapore.

Dating back to 1824, the original mosque was initially constructed for the country’s first sultan, Sultan Hussian Shah. It was subsequently reconstructed and today is a gathering point for Muslims. Designed by architect, Denis Santry, the site is popular amongst locals and those wanting to take in some culture should view Muslim elders engaged in traditions and rituals that take place during festivals days.

The mosque is still used by devotees and can hold up to about 5,000 people at its main prayer hall. Do not forget to also take a look at the mosque’s unique base which consists of a great many glass bottles as well as its exterior views which are definitely worth seeing.
